Watch me break another big rule

W

After writing for my blog for over 3 years and 170 articles, I have come to some truths about myself.

  • I value peace and freedom in my life above everything.
  • I’m in a privileged place where I don’t have to do anything (I recently started thinking of myself as “retired”).
  • I live a decelerated life.
  • I like using technology, but try to avoid being used by it. That means I don’t use any social media service.
  • I enjoy sharing my wisdom with all who want it.
  • “More” is no longer the answer for “What do I want?”. I am not motivated by more money for money alone, other than to establish my extreme value to others.
  • If I just wanted more money, there are simple things I could do. The best place to start would be to go to my partner, and tell him “I’m back”. That would be the easiest and he would love that.
  • I could do things like promote myself to captive audiences I have (like all the customers of my webinar company), but something in me is choosing not to do that.
  • As I acknowledge me choosing not to do those things, it’s reaffirming for me that I’m enjoying what I’m doing now, going about it how I’m going about it now. I’m living the life I want to live.
  • I’ve realized I don’t want to be doing many connect calls. I’d like to make 4 bold $10 million proposals per year, and that’s it, and otherwise do what I want when I want.
  • I’ve been taking some perverse pleasure in how little my email list is. When I recently told someone I had made a $10 million proposal how few subscribers I had and was unapologetic about it, he was blown away.
  • I love turning perceived weaknesses into strengths.
  • I have seen myself for some time as a “Sage on the Mountain” and I really enjoying being that. It’s a peaceful life.
  • The people that find me (like you that is reading this) I give you the best I’ve got in return. You made your way up the mountain.
  • I like writing blog articles, and have every week for over 3 years. Because I don’t use social media, and lack the desire to do the work needed to grow my list, I’m currently at 92 subscribers. To have only 92 subscribers after writing weekly for 3 years for someone of my caliber with the things I have to say takes effort. I have realized if I can’t be bothered to even grab the low hanging fruit, it’s time to play another way.

With all the above being true, I have decided to cap my email list at 100. I’m calling it the Frolic 100.

You are now part of this elite community.

With my email software, those that become inactive will be dropped from the list to make space for new people.

My goal is to raise that open rate (currently at around 35% – an industry norm), rather than build the list. I’m no longer playing a game of growing my list, but of engaging my list.

People who apply to be in the Frolic 100 when it is over 100 will have to wait for space to open up.

Those in the Frolic 100 can invite others, and I can invite people, but access to the regular public will be restricted to when space is available.

My list is now at (or near) it’s goal. I have the audience I need. I have a great story to tell about it.

There’s something here that is “fun” for me. I’m doing things no one else does. I do them because they’ve never been done before.

I take my weaknesses and turn them into strengths.

And I like doing it in front of people, and showing things once seen that cannot be unseen.

What is the takeaway for yourself from watching me do my thing?

  • I have done similar stuff, looking to do bigger things. In my search for sources of inspiration and personal reconstruction I have found your blog at the right time
