How to Cultivate Financial Hope and Momentum

H

One of my takeaways from the past US election is that if people are worried about money there is no space to dream.

Who knows how much that affected the actual election, but it’s a truth I’ve lived with. If people are worried about the very basics in their lives, what room is there for anything else?

There’s been multiple times in my life where I’ve struggled financially. I’ve talked a lot about my early days as a DJ, sleeping on the floor of my office, trying to make something happen. What I’ve spoken about less was that when I concluded my DJ and rave promoter career, I finished with no money. I literally went bankrupt because I couldn’t pay my back taxes. I had to start the next chapter of my life with nothing. However, unlike when I started as a DJ, and it was just me to worry about, this time I was married and had two small babies to support.

From that place I launched my comedy hypnosis career. I simply had to succeed, because the stakes were so high. During that time “I stole from Peter to pay Paul” and would regularly be behind in my rent and skirted eviction many times. We got creative with how we cooked and really stretched a dollar. There was one particular Christmas when I had no money to buy presents. I bought my wife a $2 book from a clearance shelf so I had something to give, and we made gifts for my three-year-old child by hand and wrapped them so that there were presents under the tree.

No one knew how much I struggled because I was too ashamed.

However, the one thing we always had was a belief our lives could get better. That this was a temporary situation. All these years later, these are now just stories for me to share.

I’ve been thinking about these memories when I survey the political landscape out there, and how destructive it can be when people lose hope.

It’s from this place that I asked myself how can I tap into my past and share some of the tools I’ve used to change my situation?

Because we’re approaching a new year, one of my most successful tools is on my mind; The Big Drive. I introduced the concept last week and examples of when I’ve used it.

I’m going to continue to break it down and share what I’ve learned and how it works.

For this article I will share the overview. For following articles I will go into more detail of each element.

There are three key elements to The Big Drive, and it’s by calling on them all at the same time that make it potent. It’s also the time focused nature of the Big Drive. It’s designed to start at the very beginning of a calendar year and get momentum working for you.

Looking back at that old story of mine, how poor I was that one Christmas, and yet a week later as New Years happened, I was ready to move past that and start the momentum I needed to change my situation. “Small results” and “More of the same” were no longer acceptable.

And if I’m honest, these days I’m more in that “Personal Development” area, where in recent years I’ve been working on myself. I’m also going to call upon The Big Drive to help shift me from this current place I’m in and bring more Action into my life. This article is a part of it, I’m literally breaking down a “How” in real time.

Which element above would help if you had more of it? And how might you create more in your own life?

For the time time ever I’m offering The Big Drive as a program where I will be both facilitator and participant. It’s starting soon, to kick off 2025 with a ton of momentum. Click here for more details.
