How to Write a Book in 60 Days

H

We’re surrounded by overwhelming marketing messages online from gurus all promising to teach you their easy paths to success.

Now, here I am undertaking a very real challenge of creating and releasing a book in 60 days. I have no doubts I will be successful.

The thing is, yes this is a very real challenge, and yes it is going from idea to publishing within 60 days, AND there’s no way I’d ever pretend it was easy.

Here is the real way I got to the point of creating a book in 60 days:

  1. I started writing this blog 3 & ½ years ago. I committed myself to 1 article a week.
  2. I did the work on myself, and started to see in myself that my unique experience is valuable enough to share.
  3. I allowed myself fluidity in what I talk about. My blog articles at the start are quite different from what I write about now.
  4. Really, the process started when I was born. I am writing about experiences and wisdom that have taken me my whole life to acquire.
  5. I took 14 years writing my first book. Only after finishing the first one did I start to accept that I’m an author and can do it again. I don’t think I could have done the 60 day challenge for my first book.
  6. I have a lot of experience now with writing and more specifically what it takes to finish a book and publish it. I’m able to leverage that knowledge this time.
  7. I have learned that I get a lot of value from the act of creation, more than what the sales give me.
  8. I found other outlets for voicing this same material, like a webinar I hosted last year titled “Fake it till you make it VS Just Be it” which was an important stepping stone for me on the road of this book.
  9. I’ve learned I perform well under the spotlight. Announcing my intention of this book, putting the pressure on me, allows me to perform at extreme levels.
  10.  Trust in myself and how I do things. When I lean into that, and not try to do it by some other way, is when I am at my peak.

So yes, everything I’m doing is real and possible, and it’s totally a product of me.

If I were to give advice, it would be to not try and copy me, but what can you take away from watching me, about going about it in my unique way, that you can then adapt to your own way?

And speaking of the book. Here is where I’m at:

  • The first draft is complete and has been sent to beta readers for their feedback.
  • The book designer has been hired and will start on the cover this week.
  • I have tweaked the title slightly to: “Unorthodox Success, Secret Shame”. 4 powerful words that say a lot.
  • This project has already become worth it. The act of creation is what feeds me.
