Embracing my Unorthodox Path

E

For a long time I struggled with acknowledging that I was having success in my life, but the way I achieved it, in a completely unorthodox fashion, always left me feeling like I faked my way to it.

I recently came up with the correct word to describe myself and how I did this: Audacious.

When I look up the definition of that word I get:

Showing a willingness to take surprisingly bold risks.

When I apply that word then to each part of my story, everything now makes sense.

Going back to when I was 12 years old and walking into that store asking for a job. From pursuing a music dream and promoting music no one had heard before. To sending demo tapes out and seeing what happened. To booking media and TV appearances. To starting a software company with no formal tech background. To build something from scratch time and time again.

I also realized Audacious also applies to how I’m willing to leave things behind, to move on to something else. Those moves were key parts of the journey as well.

I didn’t let society or convention dictate to me how or if I should be doing something. I just did it. I didn’t let my background or education stop me from taking bold steps. I just did it.

I didn’t let fear stop me from making an important move or decision. I just did it.

I see now this has paid off in a big way. I no longer feel like I faked it, I see that I earned it, every little bit of it, through being audacious and being unorthodox and getting there on my own in my own way.

Now I see the importance of sharing this. There isn’t just one way to get something. There are infinite ways. My way is just as valid as anyone else’s. It isn’t a lesser way, and I don’t see it that way any longer. I’m proud of what I’ve done and accomplished.

I encourage you to find your way, be audacious, and carve your own path.
